At Gusti Leather two things are in focus: the Quality of natural material and a honest look on its processing. When we founded the company, it was important to our CEO Christian Pietsch to approach leather production in India with realism.

We would like to show you how raw animal skin becomes your daily companion through traditional craftsmanship and modern standards. For us, openly showing the path of our products is not a marketing tool, but the basis for real quality and trust.

From natural material to favorite piece: The Gusti process

Making our bags is a process that requires patience and craftsmanship. This is how our products are created:

We only use skins from animals that are primarily kept for meat. For us, leather is a valuable raw material that we give a second, long-lasting life through our processing.

The selection

In ours Gusti Leder nature-Products we use traditional vegetable tanning with tree bark and oils. Ours Gusti Leder studio-Products are chrome tanned, which makes them particularly durable - of course under strict conditions (tested for chrome VI).

The tanning

Nature plays a major role, especially with our vegetable-tanned leather: the hides dry under the Indian sun. This natural process ensures the unique feel and authentic vintage look.

The drying

Every piece is cut and sewn by hand in our partner workshops in India, Pakistan and Italy. Finally, the leather is oiled or waxed to protect it and emphasize its individual character.

The finish

The conditions in the global leather industry – from animal husbandry to jobs in tanneries – are rightly being critically scrutinized. In a fast-moving fashion world, these aspects are often overlooked, but for us they are the basis of our work.
